Mallee Sun Solar Bulk Buy will donate a free 5.94kW solar power system to a not-for-profit community group, social housing co-operative, or kindergarten in the Swan Hill municipality.
Could this be your group?
Mallee Sun Solar Bulk Buy organiser Jo Kaptein said applications were open now, until 18 December.
“This is a shout out to all community groups and schools in the region to put in an application for a fully-funded 5.94kW solar power system,” Ms Kaptein said.
“This give back to the community, in the form of free solar, is part of the promise we made to Swan Hill and Robinvale residents when we launched the bulk buy back in July.
“Installations are going well, with about 20 residential solar power systems being installed every month.
“With support from Swan Hill Rural City Council, we are now in a position to release the first of the community bonus systems.
“Hopefully this will be the first of several solar gifts we can donate to worthy groups in the area in the coming months.
“Any community group that uses a fair bit of electricity during the daytime, has a suitable roof and does great work in their local community should apply.”
Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor Bill Moar encouraged community groups to apply.
“This is one of the reasons we were keen to join the Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance in this bulk buy initiative. We knew that as residential solar installations occurred, community groups would benefit,” Cr Moar said.
“The free solar system is a win for those groups, but there are ongoing benefits to them and the community too, with the potential for reduced power bills and benefits to the environment.”
The deadline for applications is Monday, 18 December at 5pm.
