A heart-warming sight at the Castlemaine Climate Rally on Sunday 29 November was the steady queue of people waiting to sign a petition to Premier Daniel Andrews calling for practical action on climate change. Over 200 locals and visitors signed the 5 metre-long scroll calling for a Victorian Renew Energy Target of 30% by 2020, closure of the Hazlewood power station in 2017, a higher solar feed-in tariff and greater incentives for saving energy.
Children make their voices heard
Not just adults, but children also put their names to paper to let Andrews and his Government know that they are seriously concerned about climate change. With 370 signatures on the petition to-date, the Hub Foundation, organisers of the petition want more.
Our aim is 500 signatures by the 18th of December. We will be delivering the petition to Daniel Andrews before Christmas and we want him to know that people in this Shire really want action and now, said Jo Kaptein, Project Officer, Hub Foundation
