Hepburn Solar Bulk-Buy

New round of Hepburn Solar Bulk-Buy launches

Solar a “Smart Move” as people spend more time at home

Going solar now is a smart move according to organisers of the Hepburn Solar Bulk-Buy.  “With so many of us spending more time at home due to COVID-19, our electricity use is rising and so too are our bills,” said Jo Kaptein, bulk-buy organiser. “By installing solar and maybe even a battery, households can protect themselves from rising costs and become more self-sufficient.”

Attractive solar and battery rebates – as well as interest-free loans – are available from the Victorian government through the Solar Homes program. For eligible households, these rebates and loans can cut the upfront purchase price significantly.

In partnership with Hepburn Shire Council, Hepburn Wind and Z-NET Hepburn Shire

To help people go solar with the minimum of fuss at this challenging time, the Hepburn Solar Bulk-Buy organiser, the not-for-profit Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance, is launching round 2 with support from partners Hepburn Shire Council, Hepburn Wind and Z-NET Hepburn Shire.

“A reputable program” says Mayor

“Now is a good time to go solar, with increased home working, home schooling and therefore greater use of energy,” said Cr Licia Kokocinski, Mayor of Hepburn Shire Council. “If more homes in our shire are powered by solar, that’s good news for everyone – with lower electricity bills, increasing energy independence and a cleaner environment.  We recommend that anyone thinking of solar panels or installing battery storage takes a look at the Hepburn Solar Bulk Buy.  It’s a reputable program and there’s a bonus for our community too, with free solar for schools and community groups.”

Rebates cutting cost of solar

“We are really excited about the quality and prices of the solar and battery systems in this new round,” said Jo Kaptein.  “Combined with the rebates and government interest-free loan, the upfront out-of-pocket cost of a typical 3.3kW solar power system is $274 for eligible households.  When you think that the average bill savings on this size system are around $770 a year, solar is a no-brainer.”

Battery storage rebate now in Hepburn Shire

“The Victorian Government’s battery rebate – worth up to $4,838 for eligible households – is now available in most postcode areas in the Hepburn Shire,” said Jo Kaptein. “This brings down the cost of a Tesla Powerwall 2 available through our bulk-buy to just $9,990 for a standard installation where the battery is added to an existing solar power system of at least 5kW in size.”

New solar installer

The solar retailer and installer for this round, selected through a competitive tender, is Cola Solar.  “They are providing high quality systems backed by industry-leading warranties, service and support,” said Jo. “Where possible, they will be using local installers and any Clean Energy Council accredited installer who works in the Hepburn Shire who is interested in being part of this program is encouraged to get in touch at sales@colasolar.com.au.”

Like all accredited installers, Cola Solar is allowed to install solar systems at this time so long as they comply with hygiene and social distancing rules.  Cola Solar has a set of policies and processes to ensure the safety of both customers and its installers.

Community groups to benefit

Earlier rounds of the bulk-buy have resulted in over $30,000 of free solar being donated to community groups and a school in the Hepburn Shire.  With this new round, the organisers are hoping that more free solar systems will be installed on buildings used by not-for-profit groups and schools in the shire if enough people take part.

Online meetings

The bulk-buy team are running a series of online meetings – starting 29 April – to help people learn more.  “You can choose to dial in and listen by phone, or tune in via video conferencing,” said Jo.  “If you can’t make it, then the meeting will be available as a recording from our website to view at your convenience.”

Other ways to get in touch and get a quote are by calling the bulk-buy team on 1300 466 274 or visiting the website at mash.org.au/hepburn-solar
